If CMDIChildWnd only contains one view, why would you need to find the active view attached to it This suggests to me that CMDIChildWnd contains more than one view (but I know it doesnt).Each time a document is loaded the view is cleared and redrawn.MFC provides a ton of different CView derived types to make life.It wont do anything useful, but in a way it already does a lot: toolbars, status bars, menu, printing.

I wrote an MDI program and I wanted to be able to create a new document from within my own code. I wanted to be able to replicate what happens when a user clicks on the new document icon, i.e. The best I could do was to create a nice new doc that didnt have focus. Very annoying. I gave up and converted the program to SDI instead. I had come to the conclusion that there is some voodoo in the MFC framework that would take me an age to figure-out. Ive been avoiding using the DocView combo - but finally have run into a situation where I cant avoid it. I have most of my code working - but cant get CButton working. Since I didnt find any options on the CArchive object to recommend a file extension, I was wondering where in MFC I might do so.
